The only difference is the IGNISTM CONVERTIBLE comes with a detachable strap whilst the IGNISTM does not. Both include the same features, have undergone the same rigorous testing, and provide the same levels of protection.

IGNISTM mouthguards are supplied with light, durable cases to help keep them safe and clean when they are not in use.

There are a few simple things you can do to keep your IGNISTM mouthguard clean.

• Brush your teeth before you wear it to remove bacteria from your mouth. You should brush your teeth again after taking your IGNISTM out as well.

• Rinse your IGNISTM with cool to lukewarm water after each use.

If you are exposing your IGNISTM to water, take care and ensure the water is only room temperature. If the water is too hot, that can cause your mouthguard to become distorted and no longer fit you properly. Make sure your IGNISTM is completely dry before storing it in a clean case, which ideally will have holes or vents that allow the mouthguard to breathe.

Makura’s mouthguards are suitable for players of any sport, contact and non-contact. All of our products CE Certified and have achieved Level 2 and Level 3 Impact Resistance through independent testing.

TEPHRA MAXTM boasts the highest level of impact resistance (Level 3) attainable for mouth-adapted mouthguards and is often the most suitable for full-contact sports like Boxing, MMA, Rugby, American Football and Ice Hockey. Its three layer design – the SHOKBLOKERTM outer, FLEXICORETM inner, and GELFORMTM liner – delivers maximum shock absorbtion and comfort. Our IGNISTM and IGNISTM CONVERTIBLE mouthguards also have the SHOKBLOKERTM outers and GELFORMTM liners, although they don’t have the FLEXICORETM inner. They’re both Level 2 Impact Resistant.

Remember: whatever your sport – no matter your level or how often you play – a mouthguard is always the right move when it comes to protecting yourself from contact-related injuries.

At Makura, most of our mouthguards are available in in two sizes:

• Junior for age 10 and under

• Senior for age 11 and over

The LITHOSTM and TEPHRA MAXTM are exceptions - they are only available in Senior size,

Ultimately, finding the right size mouthguard is a highly personal process influenced by the size of your mouth, its shape, and your own individual preferences.

No, our mouthguards do not contain any harmful materials. As part of the CE approval process, our mouthguard products undergo innocuous and chemical testing to ensure the materials they contain won’t hurt or negatively affect our users.

The specific standards that apply to mouthguards are:

• BS EN 1186: 2002, required for any plastics that come into contact with foodstuffs. This test is done to confirm that chemicals won’t transfer from the plastic into users’ bodies in toxic quantities.

• BS EN 71-3: 2013 measures the amount of certain elements like copper, mercury, and zinc that are scraped off solid materials when bitten, licked, or sucked.

• PAH testing determines whether certain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are present in a given material.

Though not required as part of the CE Certification process, we can also confirm that our mouthguards contain neither Formamide nor Bisephenol A (BPA).

No, you can rest assured that all Makura mouthguards are latex free.

No, Makura mouthguards have been tested to confirm they do not contain Bisphenol (BPA), Formamide or Phthalate (DEHP).

Wearing braces doesn’t mean you can or should stop using a mouthguard whilst playing sports. If anything, it becomes more important to choose a braces-compatible mouthguard that will not only protect your teeth and mouth from soft-tissue injuries, but also safeguard the braces themselves. Without the protection of a mouthguard, a blow to the face can damage brackets, wires, and other fixed orthodontic appliances, resulting in costly dental bills for treatments.

The LITHOSTM is our ready-made mouthguard created specifically to be worn with braces. It features the ORTHO CHANNELTM, which fits carefully and securely over your braces to keep them protected and you comfortable.

Downloadable fitting instructions (PDF) for IGNISTM mouthguards are available on our website in multiple languages: English, Français, Español, Deutsch and Italiano.

With the IGNISTM being a BOIL & BITETM style, it’s crucial you follow the specific instructions for it. The principles are the same for all BOIL & BITETM mouthguards (they need to be boiled, shaped, and cooled), but the details (how long you need to immerse them in hot water, for example) vary. To ensure the best fit, you must fit your IGNISTM mouthguard properly and as instructed.

Depending on factors like how intensively it’s used and how well it’s cared for, your IGNISTM mouthguard can last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. In the majority of cases though, we would recommend replacing your mouthguard at least once a year. This will maximize both its effectiveness and hygiene.

Yes, you can reshape your IGNISTM, though the number of times will vary due to factors including its type, its age, and how intensively it’s used.

Simply follow the fitting instructions for your mouthguard. If you find that it no longer conforms properly or comfortably to your mouth, it might be time to purchase a new one.

No, mouthguards do not prevent concussions or other types of traumatic brain injuries (MTBIs). Past studies have attempted to prove a link, but the evidence has never been strong enough to demonstrate a conclusive one.

What mouthguards do excel at is reducing the impact of dental and orofacial traumas like broken, chipped, dislodged, or impacted teeth as well as contusions, abrasions, and lacerations.
